Abstract

Kinship systems, the social structures through which individuals are linked by blood, marriage, or other familial ties, are crucial in shaping the social fabric of human societies. This paper offers a comparative examination of kinship systems across diverse cultural contexts, focusing on structural variations and their broader social implications. By analyzing kinship practices in South Asia, Europe, and Africa, we explore the influences of geography, religion, and historical development on family organization, inheritance practices, and social roles. The study examines key components such as marriage, descent, residence patterns, and intergenerational relationships, offering insights into how kinship systems adapt to cultural, social, and economic changes. Through case studies and anthropological data, this paper aims to contribute to a deeper understanding of kinship dynamics in a globalized world. We argue that kinship systems are not only a reflection of cultural values but also serve as mechanisms for social control, resource distribution, and conflict resolution.
